Etsy Store

After much shopping around and comparing sites to sell original artwork and my upcoming t-shirt line, I have opened a store at Their fees are very affordable and the shopping cart functionality is built in. To build a new website with the features they offer would be cost prohibitive. If you are looking to sell handmade items; artwork, clothing, jewelry, etc. check them out. In the meantime you can visit my store:

How To Handle Negative Comments About Your Work

With more than 100 eBooks on the market I have read my fair share of comments on my work, both good and bad. As artists and authors we have to have thick skins and take it all in stride. When I first started self-publishing, negative comments were very upsetting. Now, they are only slightly annoying and sometimes even comical. One guy commented, after purchasing one of my eBooks, that he would have felt better had he been scammed by Nigerians. That one made me laugh and also made me feel sorry for anyone from Nigeria.

Negative comments outweigh the positive ones, probably 4 to 1. Although I haven't done the math, that is my estimate. As Dr. Phil said on his show today, when people have a good experience with a product they say, "OK, that's what I expected," and move one. When they have a negative experience they want to shout it to the world. I'm paraphrasing so don't get bent out of shape if I didn't quote him word for word. Rest assured that for every negative comment that is voiced regarding your work there are many more who loved your work and just didn't bother to say so.

Positive comments bring me joy and far outweigh the negative ones in my quest for artistic bliss. As long as I am certain that I have put forth my best effort and believe that my work is beneficial to some people, I will continue to draw, paint, and write. I suggest you do the same.

If you have a special way of dealing with negative comments and reviews, please feel free to share it with us.

Do You Enjoy a Good Mystery Novel?

Here's a sneak peak at my latest commission. It's a paperback cover design for Bill Howard's second book in the Rick Wade mystery series. I designed a logo for it too to act as a brand that we can use on all the books in the series and other promotions. Bill was a joy to work with. I would love to have more client's like him. I will post a link to it when it is published. Contact me if you need a paperback book cover designed at an affordable price.

Update: The Case for Sarah is available on Amazon. Click HERE.
