As an artist, crafter, author, photographer, or anyone who needs to promote their work, wouldn't it be great to have a low cost website with the ability to offer a shopping cart for services, digital downloads, and physical products? Wouldn't it be even better to have a blog with it and only have to sign in once to work on your website, add new products, post to your blog? Well, I have found a way to do all that and more. Click on the link to see the website I am building for myself. It's a work in progress as I will be adding more products and services soon.

I've just discovered the coolest thing ever. Splashtop lets me access
and control my computer on my tablet. What does this mean? It means I
can access and run all the drawing programs on my PC; Photoshop, DrawPlus, etc.
on the touch screen of the tablet and draw directly on the screen of the
tablet with it all actually being on my computer. You put a streaming
software on the computer and an app on your tablet. The personal use
account is free. This is probably common knowledge to many folks but it
just turned my artist world right side up! http://www.splashtop.com/personal
I recently purchased a 10" tablet and was looking for a sketching and painting program for it. After doing some research and trying out several free versions of different programs, I decided to get the paid version of Sketchbook Pro made by Autodesk, Inc. It has more features than the others and the ability to change canvas size.
Finding a copy of the manual for it required quite a bit of research as well. If you are looking for one, here is a link to the English version. Be advised that this manual covers the full blown version on Windows/Mac. If using the program on an Android tablet, like I am, you can still find information on the tools available in the limited version.
Sometimes I choose to jump in and start drawing with no particular
subject or theme in mind. This allows my subconscious to express
whatever it feels a need to. "Overcome evil with good" is a bible
passage that is near and dear to my heart. This drawing expresses it in a
way far more powerful that I would have created had I started with that
theme in mind.
This method of drawing is art therapy for the artist. Elements of
art and principles of design that are embedded in us become the tools
that allow us to turn subconscious thoughts into visual reality.
Have you ever done a magnificent drawing and when you try to sell it as a print it looks awful because the paper texture and tiny bits of who knows what show up? An easy way to clean up the drawing is to scan it into your computer, if it fits on your scanner, or take a high resolution photograph of it. Open the jpeg in Photoshop and use the magic eraser tool to eliminate the paper background. Be sure to also click the magic eraser tool on any small areas withing the drawing itself that you want to be a smooth white. Save the image as a jpeg and voila, your drawing is magnificent once again. You can see an example of one of my sketches I used this technique on HERE.

My boyfriend, Jack, and I enjoy taking off on the weekends to explore new places and take a break from our work. Our most recent trip was to the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. It occurred to me that our trips would make great eBook material. I published the first volume of Jack & Tanya's Weekend Adventures today. You can see it here...CLICK

After much shopping around and comparing sites to sell original artwork and my upcoming t-shirt line, I have opened a store at Etsy.com. Their fees are very affordable and the shopping cart functionality is built in. To build a new website with the features they offer would be cost prohibitive. If you are looking to sell handmade items; artwork, clothing, jewelry, etc. check them out. In the meantime you can visit my store: Tanya Provines on Etsy
With more than 100 eBooks on the market I have read my fair share of comments on my work, both good and bad. As artists and authors we have to have thick skins and take it all in stride. When I first started self-publishing, negative comments were very upsetting. Now, they are only slightly annoying and sometimes even comical. One guy commented, after purchasing one of my eBooks, that he would have felt better had he been scammed by Nigerians. That one made me laugh and also made me feel sorry for anyone from Nigeria. Negative comments outweigh the positive ones, probably 4 to 1. Although I haven't done the math, that is my estimate. As Dr. Phil said on his show today, when people have a good experience with a product they say, "OK, that's what I expected," and move one. When they have a negative experience they want to shout it to the world. I'm paraphrasing so don't get bent out of shape if I didn't quote him word for word. Rest assured that for every negative comment that is voiced regarding your work there are many more who loved your work and just didn't bother to say so. Positive comments bring me joy and far outweigh the negative ones in my quest for artistic bliss. As long as I am certain that I have put forth my best effort and believe that my work is beneficial to some people, I will continue to draw, paint, and write. I suggest you do the same. If you have a special way of dealing with negative comments and reviews, please feel free to share it with us.
Here's a sneak peak at my latest commission. It's a paperback cover design for Bill Howard's second book in the Rick Wade mystery series. I designed a logo for it too to act as a brand that we can use on all the books in the series and other promotions. Bill was a joy to work with. I would love to have more client's like him. I will post a link to it when it is published. Contact me if you need a paperback book cover designed at an affordable price.

This is my daughter's first eBook. I'm so proud of her. She is an Elementary education major. Check it out but heed the warning. It contains graphic descriptions. We should never forget what happened and do all we can to make sure it never happens again.
This is one of the twelve acrylic paintings and eBooks I did for my client in Michigan. If you have a manuscript you would like to have formatted for epub/mobi please contact me and I will help you get it ready for publication.
